ר׳ אברהם בן יצחק מן ההר
ר׳ אברהם בן יצחק מן ההר (d. c.1315) was a Provençal Talmudist associated principally with Montpellier. His early life and teachers are poorly documented, and the map’s 1250 birth year is only a conventional estimate. A contemporary and scholarly friend of ר׳ מנחם בן שלמה המאירי, he wrote extensive commentaries on much of the Talmud. Like the Meiri, he repeatedly used the legal conclusions and terminology of ר׳ משה בן מימון to clarify difficult sugyot, an approach distinctive within Provençal learning. Surviving commentaries include treatments of Yevamot, Nedarim, Nazir, Kiddushin, and other tractates. His commentary on Kiddushin entered Vilna editions under the erroneous title תוספות ר״י הזקן; textual analysis and explicit evidence show that it is the work of ר׳ אברהם מן ההר rather than ר׳ יצחק בן שמואל הזקן. Near the end of his life he moved from Montpellier to Carpentras and joined the rabbinical court of ר׳ מרדכי בן יוסף, author of שערי נדרים. He died around 1315. His work is valuable both for independent interpretation and for preserving Provençal readings and Maimonidean legal analysis. No authenticated image is known.
