ר׳ חיים פרידלנדר

ר׳ חיים בן משה פרידלנדר (23 June 1923–4 August 1986), known through the posthumous שפתי חיים series, was a German-born Israeli mussar teacher, educator and editor. Born in Breslau, he immigrated with his parents משה and צפורה to Mandatory Palestine shortly before the Second World War. After living at Kibbutz Hafetz Haim, he studied at the Lomza yeshivah in Petah Tikva and became one of the first seven students of the newly established Ponovezh Yeshiva in Bnei Brak. There he studied closely with ר׳ שמואל רוזובסקי and became a principal disciple of the mashgiach ר׳ אליהו אליעזר דסלר. Together with ר׳ אריה כרמל he helped edit מכתב מאליהו from ר׳ דסלר's writings. He founded and directed the Torat Emet school in Bnei Brak, served as mashgiach at Yeshivat HaNegev in Netivot, and returned in 1981 as mashgiach of Ponovezh. He also prepared annotated editions of writings by ר׳ משה חיים לוצאטו. After his death, his family edited his lectures and notes as שפתי חיים and מסילות חיים בחינוך.
