ר׳ אפרים דב לנדו

ר׳ אפרים דב לנדו (born 5 April 1930), generally known as ר׳ דב לנדו or Rav Dov Lando, is an Israeli rosh yeshiva and leader of the Lithuanian-Haredi community. He was born in Zgierz near Łódź, Poland, to ר׳ טוביה יוסף לנדוי and Devorah, in a family descended from the Strikov Hasidic dynasty. The family immigrated to Mandatory Palestine in 1935 and settled in Rehovot. After studying at Yeshivat HaYishuv HeHadash, he entered Ponovezh Yeshiva, where his principal teachers included ר׳ דוד פוברסקי and ר׳ שמואל רוזובסקי; he also learned for a period with ר׳ אליהו אליעזר דסלר. He subsequently spent about a year at Hebron Yeshiva and regarded ר׳ אברהם ישעיהו קרליץ as his formative halakhic and intellectual authority. He married Adina, a descendant of the Slabodka leadership, and joined Slabodka Yeshiva in Bnei Brak as a teacher. In the early 1980s he became one of its roshei yeshiva, eventually serving alongside ר׳ משה הלל הירש. His published scholarship includes זכר טוב, זכר דבר, מנחת דבר, חידושי רבי דב לנדו, גליונות רבי דב לנדו and the correspondence שיח דבר. Since 2023 he has held a central public-leadership role and serves as president of Vaad HaYeshivot.
