ר׳ מאיר הכהן מרוטנבורג was a late-thirteenth-century German Tosafist and one of the distinguished pupils of ר׳ מאיר בן ברוך מרוטנבורג. Almost no independent biographical detail survives, and neither his birth nor death place is securely known. His enduring importance rests on הגהות מיימוניות, annotations to ר׳ משה בן מימון’s משנה תורה that integrate the Ashkenazic halakhic traditions of Germany and northern France with the Maimonidean code. The work preserves rulings, responsa and customs associated especially with ר׳ מאיר בן ברוך מרוטנבורג and earlier בעלי התוספות. It circulated in two related components: running glosses and collections commonly called תשובות מיימוניות. Through later manuscript and print traditions it became an essential conduit by which Franco-German material entered subsequent halakhic literature. Because the evidence securely associates him with the Rothenburg scholarly circle but does not document a fuller itinerary, this map record deliberately avoids invented journeys and treats its dates as approximate.
