ר׳ מרדכי וויליג

ר׳ מרדכי וויליג (born 1947) is an American Orthodox rosh yeshiva, communal rabbi and halakhic authority. Educated at Yeshiva University, he received a B.A. in mathematics in 1968, an M.S. in Jewish history and RIETS semikhah in 1971. He joined the Mazer School of Talmudic Studies as a rosh yeshiva in 1973 and later became Rosh Kollel of the Bella and Harry Wexner Kollel Elyon and a supervisor of advanced dayanus training. Since 1974 he has served as spiritual leader of the Young Israel of Riverdale in the Bronx. He has been active in the Beth Din of America and in developing standards and agreements addressing Jewish divorce, conversion, marriage and contemporary medical ethics. His principal published series, עם מרדכי, applies close Talmudic analysis to Berakhot, Shabbat, the festivals and practical Shulchan Arukh. He holds Yeshiva University’s Rabbi Dr. Sol Roth Chair in Talmud and Contemporary Halakhah and continues to teach and publish.
