ר׳ משה הלל הירש
ר׳ משה הלל הירש (born 1936) is an American-born Israeli rosh yeshiva and a senior leader of Lithuanian Haredi Jewry. Born Milton Hirsch in Brooklyn to Romanian immigrants David and Malvina Hirsch, he studied at Rabbi Jacob Joseph School and then at Beth Medrash Govoha in Lakewood, where ר׳ אהרן קוטלר became his formative teacher. In 1963 he married Avigail, daughter of Slabodka rosh yeshiva ר׳ מרדכי שולמן, and settled permanently in Israel. He joined the teaching staff of the Slabodka Yeshiva in Bnei Brak and, after his father-in-law’s death in 1982, became one of its roshei yeshiva. His lectures emphasize sustained analytical Talmud study, disciplined character and the transmission of the Lakewood-Slabodka tradition. He serves on Degel HaTorah’s מועצת גדולי התורה and, following the death of ר׳ ירחמיאל גרשון אדלשטיין in 2023, emerged together with ר׳ דב לנדו as one of the principal spiritual leaders of the Lithuanian-Haredi public. His teachings circulate in recorded lectures, the weekly משנת רמ״ה sheets and the edited 2024 volume משנת רבי משה הלל on Bava Kamma. He remains active at Slabodka in Bnei Brak in 2026.
