ר׳ משה סולובייצ׳יק

ר׳ משה הלוי סולובייצ׳יק (1879–1941) was a Lithuanian rabbi and rosh yeshiva who transplanted the Brisker analytical method to Warsaw and the United States. Born in Volozhin to ר׳ חיים סולובייצ׳יק, he studied with his father in Volozhin and Brisk and married Pesya, daughter of ר׳ אליהו פיינשטיין of Pruzhany. He served as rabbi of Raseiniai and Khislavichi before becoming head of Talmud studies at Warsaw’s Tachkemoni seminary. In 1929 he moved to New York to lead advanced Talmud study at RIETS, where his teaching decisively shaped American Orthodox scholarship. His students included his sons ר׳ יוסף דב סולובייצ׳יק and ר׳ אהרן סולובייצ׳יק. Most of his influence was transmitted orally through lectures, students and posthumously edited novellae.
