ר׳ יצחק זילברשטיין

ר׳ יצחק זילברשטיין (born 1934) is an Israeli halakhic authority, dayan and the long-serving rabbi of the Ramat Elchanan neighbourhood in Bnei Brak. Born in Będzin, Poland, to ר׳ דוד יוסף זילברשטיין, he immigrated with his family to Mandatory Palestine as a child. He studied at Etz Chaim in Jerusalem and at Slabodka Yeshiva in Bnei Brak. He married Aliza Shoshana, daughter of ר׳ יוסף שלום אלישיב; through this marriage he was also brother-in-law to ר׳ חיים קניבסקי. He taught for several years at the Lucerne yeshiva in Switzerland and later headed the Beit David institutions in Holon before becoming rabbi of Ramat Elchanan. His rulings are especially influential in medical ethics, emergency care and the application of halakhah to unusual practical cases. His numerous publications include תורת היולדת, חשוקי חמד and the עלינו לשבח series, often presenting complex legal questions through memorable real-life situations. He serves as av beit din and is widely consulted by physicians, hospitals and rabbinic authorities.
