ר׳ יוסף יצחק שניאורסון (1880–1950), known as הריי״צ and the Frierdiker Rebbe, was the sixth rebbe of Chabad-Lubavitch. Born in Lyubavichi to ר׳ שלום דובער שניאורסון, he directed Tomchei Temimim and succeeded his father in 1920. He organized clandestine Jewish education under Soviet rule, survived a 1927 death sentence after international intervention, and led Chabad from Riga and Poland. Rescued from German-occupied Warsaw, he reached New York in 1940 and rebuilt Chabad education, publishing and relief institutions from 770 Eastern Parkway.
