ר׳ זלמן ברוך מלמד

ר׳ זלמן ברוך מלמד (born 1937) is a leading Religious Zionist rosh yeshiva, founder of Yeshivat Beit El and a prominent disciple of ר׳ צבי יהודה הכהן קוק. Born in Tel Aviv, he studied at Kfar HaRoeh, Knesset Hezekiah and Kerem B’Yavneh before transferring to Mercaz HaRav in 1954. ר׳ צבי יהודה הכהן קוק appointed him to teach there in 1965 and later charged him with founding a new yeshiva. In 1977–78 he led a group of students to Beit El, where he established Yeshivat Beit El and became the community's rabbi. He subsequently helped build a wide institutional network, founded Arutz Sheva and organized the Vaad Rabanei Yesha. He left the municipal rabbinate in 2013 but has continued as rosh yeshiva, teaching Talmud, halakhah and the Religious Zionist thought of ר׳ אברהם יצחק הכהן קוק and ר׳ צבי יהודה הכהן קוק. His recorded lectures and books, including נתיבי אמונה, have extended that teaching to a large public audience.
